All iPhone 12 models coming in the fall are expected to feature 5G connectivity However, one analyst believes that is not the last we will hear about Apple's next device
A report by Wedbush Securities analysts Daniel Ives, Strecker Backe, and Ahmad Khalil claims that Apple may bring out a cheaper iPhone 12 that can only connect to LTE networks The Wedbush report, discovered by Business Insider, expects the 4G iPhone 12 to appear in early 2021, probably in February
Most iPhone 12 rumors point to Apple launching four iPhone 12 models this fall: the 61-inch iPhone 12 Max, 61-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 67-inch iPhone 12 Max All four models will have 5G connectivity All four models should come equipped with 5G connectivity, making them the first iPhones to connect to the faster network standard
This would allow Apple to challenge the best 5G phones like Samsung and OnePlus, but it would also mean that the price of this year's iPhone 12 models is not likely to drop, as Apple lowered the price of the iPhone 11 (For that reason, the Wedbush report argues that at least this year's models will not increase the price of the iPhone)
By offering the iPhone 12 with LTE, Apple could make the price of the new model cheaper, making the iPhone 12 more attractive in emerging markets, especially those where 5G networks are still in their infancy It would also fit in with Apple's current strategy of supplementing higher-end models by selling less expensive models iPhone SE has been popular enough to boost Apple's iPhone sales in the June quarter
Wedbush's Ives told Business Insider that the LTE version of the iPhone 12 could be priced in the $800 range iPhone 12 Pro is expected to cost around $999 when it debuts this fall, Wedbush reports puts the iPhone's release date at February 2021
This goes against the way Apple has been releasing phones in the first half of the year, but that is not a common practice for phone makers This year's iPhone SE came out in April, with the first model debuting at the end of March 2016 Rarely does a phone launch in the first few months of the year, but Apple leaves a bit of leeway between the phone's launch and the holiday shopping season
For the 5G iPhone 12 model, Apple has already confirmed that it will not appear in September like the recent iPhone flagship models Instead, the phone will likely begin rolling out in October, with some reports claiming that the regular iPhone 12 model and the iPhone 12 Pro version will ship at different times
