We already have some idea of Apple's future plans for a foldable iPhone Flip, although Apple has not revealed any details or even confirmed that such a device is in development. Nevertheless, rumors and patent applications have filled in some information, and more imaginative Apple fans are working on folding iPhone designs on Apple's behalf.

ConceptsiPhone provided us with one of the better iPhone 12 Flip videos on YouTube. The video highlights everything from the phone's outer display to the full screen layout after the device flips open.

A rendering of the ConcepsiPhone video shows off the external display, presumably used for quick notifications, before flipping to the front like the longer iPhone. When folded at a 90-degree angle, the front display still resembles the traditional iOS arrangement, with activity and clock widgets at the top of the screen similar to those seen in iOS 14.

Perhaps most striking in this clip is the jaw-dropping realism of the two iPhone Flips (one unfolded, the other folded) lined up on the wood panel surface, showing their contrasting sizes. The closed iPhone 12 Flip opens and unfolds to reveal a glossy aluminum bezel, with what appears to be a USB Type-C charging port and the iconic Apple logo in the same place as usual: near the top center of the back.

The video ends with a $1,999 price tag. This is on the higher end of recent foldable phones, but it is a price that will burst the bubble of anyone imagining a foldable iPhone.

While this concept video looks like something that could come out of Cupertino, some iPhone Flip rumors suggest that Apple will take a slightly different tack. According to a patent application filed earlier this year, Apple is considering a curved hinge design, and another rumor has Apple using two separate display panels on the hinge. What we see in the concept video looks a lot like the Galaxy Z Flip. While it is certainly a great phone, there is no chance that Apple would copy it if it came out with its own foldable phone.

And that's a big IF. Even though the concept video calls this the iPhone 12 Flip, it is unlikely that such a device will appear alongside the other iPhone 12 models this fall. Apple is rumored to be producing four conventional models, and the foldable phone will be released in the coming ... . or left to the imagination of concept designers.
