iPhone12 release Date Just Leaked — and there's Some Bad News

Apple's new iPhone 12 may not offer too many exciting upgrades.

Twitter tipster LeaksApplePro is the source for these details (via Wccftech). It is not impossible that the details of the presentation are in the hands of the leaker, as the keynote has long been rumored to be in the process of being recorded.

LeaksApplePro also revealed the date of the event: either October 13 or 14, Apple announced the date on October 1. This confirms the old rumor that Apple had delayed the announcement due to manufacturing delays in recent months.

The iPhone 12 part of the leak does not sound thrilling. It says "same iPhone" and makes us wonder if the design is really different. LeaksApplePro also mentions some of the rumors we've heard before, including a new A14 Bionic chipset (which will be 5G compatible), more RAM and a better camera. The improved camera could refer to the new LiDAR depth sensor in the iPhone 12 Pro model, but there should be other enhancements as well.

Others will include the Apple Watch 6, a new Mac, and a new iPad.LeaksApplePro is not explicit about the Apple Watch's new features, only that it is a "shitty upgrade." We do know that it will get blood oxygen monitoring and other new health tracking features, plus the possibility of a new case design.

It is also likely that we will see the first ARM MacBooks, especially the Apple Silicon chips announced at WWDC. These chips will replace the Intel CPUs in existing Macs and give Apple more control over the design.

We are also going to see a refresh of the iPad. The new model will likely be the successor to either the basic iPad or the iPad Air, and will likely have an updated chipset. Both of these models were refreshed last year, so it makes sense that no major changes are planned.

As is tradition, there is One More Thing at the launch: the revived AirPower wireless charging pad. There have been a few rumors of a new AirPower, which are apparently false, but the general point that Apple is finally launching its own wireless charger seems to be true. Hopefully, it will include the promised ability to charge an iPhone, AirPods case, and Apple Watch at the same time.
