Second Stimulus Check on Second1,200 may Arrive Earlier Than Expected — Here's how

A second stimulus package may soon be on the table if a new push by Republican senators to pass a coronavirus relief bill resumes negotiations

Republicans plan to offer a smaller stimulus package of less than $1 trillion targeted at major bailouts amid public statements between the White House and Democratic leaders

According to Politico (via Fox News), the new details include a $300 enhancement to federal unemployment benefits through December 27 This is less than the amount Democrats had claimed and less than the $400 that President Trump enacted two weeks ago in a series of executive orders

Unemployment benefits have been a point of contention between the two sides in the negotiations, but funding for the Payroll Protection Program, the US Postal Service, and schools to resume education in the fall may be priorities

Politico's report did not mention whether a second $1,200 stimulus package for low-income Americans would be included in the new plan

However, negotiators appear to have agreed to distribute another direct payment, meaning that the amount of the second stimulus package and the framework for eligibility for the second stimulus package could be included in a slimmed-down Republican bill

The Senate is expected to finish its last session on August 7 and not return to work until after Labor Day in September Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell could recall senators to vote on this new bill, but he has not indicated a desire to do so

Instead, negotiations are likely to resume in earnest next month If the terms of the bill are agreed to early in the month, the Check 2 date for the stimulus package could be late September

The next payment could be made earlier only if the bill is finalized before the Congressional recess ends and the Senate convenes for a vote
