According to a new leak, the tremendously expensive gold Apple Watch Edition may return with the Apple Watch 6.

Frequent Apple leaker L0vetodream tweeted a photo of a gold Apple Watch in what appears to be a case for carrying and charging the "Edition" branded smartwatch. The photo also shows a gorgeous watch strap. [The Apple Watch Edition is effectively the premium model of the Apple Watch; some Apple Watch 5 versions come in titanium or ceramic finishes and cost well over the $1,000 mark. In 2015, however, Apple began selling an 18-karat gold version of the smartwatch, simply named the Apple Watch Edition.

Apple never revealed how many Apple Watch Editions it sold. However, it discontinued the gold version in 2016, making the new Edition model more affordable, though still quite expensive.

However, if the photos posted by L0vetodream are legitimate, the Apple Watch 6 could be getting a gold Edition model. And it will likely include a series of leather straps and what looks like a leather bound change case.

From the photos, the straps appear to be reasonably luxurious, like those on expensive traditional watches. The case appears quite large, and the Apple Watch could slip off. However, one of its sides has what looks like a Lightning port, presumably for charging the smartwatch while it is stored in the box.

Aside from that, it is difficult to read from these images how the Apple Watch 6 Edition differs from the standard model.

The next Apple Watch is expected to feature a host of new features, from an optical sensor on the side that will replace the Digital Crown to a blood oxygen monitoring system, improved fall detection, and the ability to feed back health data to emergency services. It is also expected to include a system capable of monitoring mental health by detecting changes in physical condition that may indicate that a person is suffering from anxiety or stress

It is also expected to feature improved performance, water resistance, and an upgraded wireless networking system to help the Apple Watch 6 operate independently from the iPhone. We expect it could be unveiled in September, either alongside or ahead of the iPhone 12.
