We don't know much about the PS5's launch library yet, but "Godfall" is certainly one of the first big games to show up on the PS5 The "loot slasher" is courtesy of new studio Counterplay Games and should help the first wave of PS5 early adopters get their action/RPG fix A Windows 10 version will also be available for those who prefer the PC version
Fan reaction to "Godfall" seems to be split between "this is exactly what the PS5 needs" and "this game is a mishmash of many buzzwords" Either way, it will more or less launch alongside the PS5, so it might be worth checking out for that alone, especially if there aren't too many other exclusive titles in the PS5 launch library
Below is a list of what we know so far about Godfall and what we still want to know
Godfall is currently slated for a late 2020 release The bad news is that we don't know anything more than that yet
Will Godfall be released at the same time as PS5 or a month later, or will Godfall be released on PC first and PS5 after that? It is hard to say, especially since the PS5 release date has not been confirmed yet
For now, we expect "Godfall" to be released by the end of the year, close to the launch of the PS5 More accurate information will be available within the next few months
For those who want to see "Godfall" in action, there are several options available: on August 6, Sony released a substantial gameplay trailer:
Whatever else can be said about Godfall, its selling point is straightforward enough In the game, you control a warrior who wields multiple weapons; since Godfall is an action RPG, you fight enemies in real time with swords, dual blades, pole arms, warhammers, and greatswords Learning enemy patterns and avoiding attacks will likely play a role in the combat, and you can also improve your character's abilities over time
The game's biggest selling point, however, is the ability to collect lots of loot Like "Diablo" and "Borderlands," "Godfall" constantly introduces new equipment, and you must decide how to combine weapons and armor to create your ideal character Many of the developers of "Godfall" previously worked on "Destiny 2 Destiny 2 is another story-driven action game with lots of items to collect and skills to customize
If nothing else, "Godfall" sounds like a brilliantly simple game: fight enemies, collect loot, customize your character, and repeat until the game ends There are no microtransactions, so you have to earn whatever you want in the game yourself Whether "Godfall" is a worthwhile time-sink game or a pretty version of a game you've seen before depends largely on what you like to play
Like Gearbox's other loot-heavy series, "Borderlands," "Godfall" will support cooperative multiplayer While players do not need to recruit other players to complete the game, they can drop in and drop out of other players' games for an impromptu multiplayer session However, the party limit is three players, so if you want to take on "Godfall" with a group of friends, you will need to do it with a small group
No word yet on whether PS5 and PC players will be able to cooperate; Counterplay has yet to say anything about cross-play capabilities The PlayStation platform has a mixed record when it comes to cross-platform play, so we will have to see what options are available
An official price for "Godfall" has not yet been announced, but $60 seems about right (Playasia, one of the few retailers offering preorders for the game, lists $60 as a placeholder) While it is possible that the PC and PS5 versions will have different prices, it does not appear that an expensive version of "Godfall" is planned We will know for sure in a few months
