PS5's price and release date have just been leaked — and there's a big surprise

With the launch of the PS5 approaching without any firm information from Sony about its price or release date, it is only natural that semi-confident leakers will step in to fill the gap.

The latest speculation is that the PS5 will be released in November and priced around $500. What is interesting about this leaked information is that the PS5 may be released a week earlier in Sony's home country of Japan than in the rest of the world, including the US, Europe, and China.

The information comes from Chinese tech news site MyDrivers and is reported by PlayStation enthusiast site Push Square; MyDrivers reports that "experts" say that the PS5 will launch in Japan on November 14, but in other regions on November 20 in Japan and November 20 in the rest of the world, according to the report. The expert also provides a comprehensive chart with pricing for both versions of the PS5, various launch accessories, and game details.

MyDrivers lists the PS5 Blu-ray version at $500 and the PS5 digital version at $400. The DualSense controller is $60 and the PS5 HD camera is also $60. The media remote and vertical stand are also available for $30 and $25, respectively. All accessory prices are expected to be similar to those of past PlayStation launches, adjusted for inflation.

The only game software is "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales," priced at $40. This appears to be the same as similar "standalone expansion" games released on PS4, such as Uncharted: Lost Legacy, which was also released at the same price.

MyDrivers also noted two other points of interest: first, PS5 pre-orders will open on September 9 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the PS1's North American release; second, the next installment of "God of War" will not be released until 2022, which seems like a long time to wait This seems like a long time to wait, but it is not unreasonable considering the length of development of the previous film.

The possibility of PS5 launching a week earlier in Japan is not unfathomable, but it would go against historical precedent a bit: the PS4 launched in North America and Europe at the end of 2013, but did not land in Japan until February 2014, a few months later.

It should be noted that the MyDrivers report has been talked about in many popular Western and Asian publications, but there is nothing to corroborate this information.

Still, the November 20 release date and the price of $500 are being talked about. As always, Tom's Guide recommends channeling Sony's official feed.

While speculation about the PS5's price is heating up, there is another big rumor floating around. A new Sony patent outlines a mechanism to detect specific users based on how they hold the controller. This would be especially ideal for households that share a PS5, as it would eliminate the need to log into one's own account, allowing one to play games faster.

We also got our first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this week. There is one problem, however: PS4 players who want to upgrade to the PS5 version will have to purchase the $70 "CrossGen Bundle" or pay an additional $10 for the $60 regular version.
