Huge OnePlus Nord2 Leak Reveals Release Date, Key Specifications, Price

The chipset and release date for the OnePlus Nord 2 may have been revealed.

Leaker Chun (via T3) revealed in a new tweet that OnePlus is developing a phone with a Snapdragon 662 or Snapdragon 665 processor, which will be released in India at the end of September. The report also mentions that BBK Electronics' Oppo, a stable partner of OnePlus, is planning to launch a similar phone at a similar price in early September.

The Rs. 16,000-18,000 price range is roughly equivalent to $215-250, which is considerably cheaper than the $500 OnePlus Nord; note that this is a rough conversion from the UK price of £379 as the OnePlus Nord has yet to land in the US. Note that, once again, OnePlus is experimenting with a true budget device that can compete with the likes of the Moto G Power and TCL 10L, which use the Snapdragon 6 series chipset. [However, OnePlus is experimenting with several new chipset configurations. We have seen OnePlus also testing handsets with the Snapdragon 690 chip, which is still inferior to the Nord, but would be more powerful than the 665 chip revealed in this new leak.

The 690 chip also provides 5G connectivity, an increasingly important feature in new phones; using a 4G-only 662/665 chip would make the handset cheaper and more in line with its rivals, but at the expense of the handset's future, and Nord's 5G-ready Snapdragon 765 chip.

There is not much clarity regarding OnePlus' next inexpensive phone, other than the assumption that it will carry over the design touches established in the Nord; it may be simply named the Nord 2 or the Nord Lite, but the OnePlus Aurora There are also rumors of a device, which would continue OnePlus' new polar/Nordic-inspired naming convention.

Given that Chun claims that the phone will be launched at the end of September, it may be reasonable to assume that this is when OnePlus' refreshed 8-series phones, the OnePlus 8T and OnePlus 8T Pro, will arrive. These will be very similar to the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, but with some improvements, including a new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset.
