Microsoft Teams is getting a boost in video conferencing thanks to a new feature called Coordinated Meetings With this update, organizations with Microsoft Teams Rooms devices and Surface Hubs will be able to sync all of their devices
Companies that own or use such devices, from wireless headsets to smart conferencing hubs, will be able to join a meeting with one device and connect all other compatible devices in the room to the same meeting
The idea behind this feature is to synchronize all these devices to provide the best conference experience This means that one device could pick up audio, another could provide a camera for video, and devices that are not needed could be shut off to prevent audio feedback and other irritating distractions
In effect, overall, you can bring together loads of the best features of the devices in one meeting However, it does require a bit of setup, as each device needs its own dedicated Exchange room mailbox
You can set up coordinated meetings on Teams Rooms devices with touchscreens, or you can set up the entire device from a central location using an XML configuration file However, the latter method is probably better suited for IT departments
However, once everything is set up, you will have a perfectly configured conference room for video conferencing
These new features may be strongly geared toward business use However, they should make the meeting experience more comfortable for those who work from home or participate in Microsoft Teams meetings remotely A sleeker meeting setup means less chance of sitting too close to a video conferencing device and hearing someone breathing rough
