What happens when you cross a dark fantasy setting steeped in Slavic folklore with Pokémon Go? It's a tough question, but the answer is The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

While CD Projekt Red is busy preparing "Cyberpunk 2077" for a November 19 release, its subsidiary developer Spokko has created an augmented reality mobile game based on the world of "The Witcher." The trailer didn't show much of how the game works, but it appears to use AR to superimpose various monsters on top of the real world with the power of a smartphone, challenging them with silver swords and potions.

In the trailer, Reshen, the iconic monster of the Witcher world, appeared in a forest where Monster Slayer players were actually walking. In this way, the game looks to play much like Niantic's Pokémon Go, which took the world by storm a few years ago.

Given the success of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" and the "Witcher" Netflix series starring Henry Cavill, it is no surprise to see "The Witcher: Monster Slayer" become a fairly popular mobile game. However, it will require something distinct from the basic mechanics of Pokémon Go.

Since this is a game set in the world of The Witcher, one would expect story-driven elements and quests, but Spokko did not specifically mention any story features. However, one should not expect to see the likes of Geralt, Jenefer, and Siri. This is because the game will take place "long before the time of Geralt of Livia."

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be available for Android and iOS. However, there was no mention of a release date, except that it is "coming soon." It is likely that the basic system will be used to attract players, and content will be expanded based on the number of players.

If nothing else, The Witcher: We also hope that CD Projekt Red will produce a new Witcher game for the PS5 and Xbox Series X after they finish work on Cyberpunk 2077.
