Acer Spin7 can beat MacBook Air with Multi-day Battery Life

All-day battery life is obsolete, so says the Acer Spin 7 The new 2-in-1, which was just unveiled at IFA 2020 in Berlin, appears to last several days on a single charge thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G compute platform

The Acer Spin 7 supports both mmWave and sub-6 GHz 5G frequencies, so no matter where 5G is, you can connect online to stream your favorite movies or send emails quickly

Here's everything we know (and what we don't know yet) about the Acer Spin 7:

Acer has not yet announced a price or release date for the Spin 7 We will update this article as these details become available [It's hard to tell from this press photo, but the Acer Spin 7 has a "steam blue" chassis with gold accents, a color design that sets it apart from other products the Acer Spin 7 can be used in four standard notebook, tablet, tent, and presentation It rotates between the four standard laptop positions: notebook, tablet, tent, and presentation Its hinge is designed to lift the laptop's keyboard slightly, creating an improved angle for ergonomic typing

For a cleaner user experience, the display is coated with a layer of antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass, and the keyboard, touchpad, and other surrounding surfaces are coated with a silver ion antimicrobial agent

Acer does not specify the laptop's connectivity in the press release, but according to The Verge, the laptop has two USB-C ports and a USB-A port for all devices still using the older non-reversible connector It also has a fingerprint sensor for Windows Hello login

The Spin 7's tablet mode should be most useful with the included Active Wacom stylus This pen has 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and can be stored on the side of the computer when it needs to be recharged

The Acer Spin 7's 14-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS display looks rather ordinary on paper The bottom "chin" bezel appears rather chunky, while the side bezels are slim and the top bezel is somewhere in between

The Spin 7 also features "integrated Qualcomm Aqstic eco noise cancellation and noise suppression (ECNS) technology" that enables "high-fidelity sound for an immersive experience" [Acer's press release does not mention the speed of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G Compute Platform

However, Acer's claim of "several days of battery life" is a really intriguing possibility here Even though we all work from home these days, it would be great to have a laptop that doesn't need to be recharged every night

Incidentally, the latest MacBook Air lasted about 9 hours and 30 minutes in our in-house web surfing test, while the Dell XPS 13 lasted nearly 13 hours If Acer's claims are true, these numbers could double

The Spin 7's Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system can operate at both mmWave and sub-6 GHz frequencies, two different flavors of 5G Acer claims that the laptop's download speeds can reach up to 75 Gbps, but this assumes that 5G is flying nearby

If the Acer Spin 7 can deliver adequate performance and support all the apps we want now (ARM-based processors do not support all legacy programs), this could be one of Acer's long overdue, multi-day battery life It could be one of the more attractive laptops that Acer has put out

But what good is a long-lasting laptop if you struggle to use it in your current workflow? We can't wait to see what happens when we put the Spin 7 to the test
