Apple Watch6: 5 Upgrades We Really Want to See

The Apple Watch 6 will soon replace the Apple Watch Series 5. For nearly a year now, we've been wondering what upgrades the Series 6 will offer. Gradual improvements. Significant changes. Or both.

Now that the Apple Watch is no longer the only smartwatch with FDA-approved ECG measurement capabilities (Samsung's Galaxy Watch 3 is), the Apple Watch 6 needs more upgrades to continue its reign as the best smartwatch of the year ...

In addition, upcoming wearables like the Fitbit Sense, which detects stress, and the Amazon Halo, which analyzes tone, are generating interest, and one can only hope that Apple is ready to respond with its own standout features.

These are the five features we would like to see in the Apple Watch 6.

Sure, the Apple Watch may tell time, but will it know when to increase the battery? I am sick of comparing its measly 18 hours to the several days of functionality of almost every other wearable I have reviewed or written about.

The Apple Watch is a powerful little wrist computer and has therefore been the best smartwatch with the worst battery life for years now. Regardless, we hope that the Apple Watch 6, whether it be the new S6 chip or a larger battery, will improve on this.

We have seen leaked information pointing to a battery capacity of 303.8 mAh for at least one Apple Watch 6 model, as the Apple Watch 5's capacity is 296 mAh and the Apple Watch Series 3 battery is 279 mAh, could be a way to increase the Series 6's stamina by several hours.

Perhaps the most important and realistically rumored upgrade to the Apple Watch 6 is the addition of an SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen monitoring; SpO2 measures oxygen saturation in the blood, which can tell you the quality of your workout and whether you should cut back on exercise before injury occurs. It could also be used to determine the quality of exercise and whether the amount of exercise should be reduced before an injury occurs.

SpO2 monitoring can also be utilized in Apple Watch sleep tracking (included in watchOS 7) to detect signs of sleep apnea. If the Apple Watch can pick up breathing disturbances throughout the night that you didn't know you had, you may learn more about why you don't feel rested in the morning.

SpO2 sensors are also found in Garmin and other smartwatches.

The big question I and I'm sure many others have is how Apple plans to reorganize its smartwatch hierarchy now that the Apple Watch Series 3 is out of the low-budget category and older. apple Watch Series 4 might be brought back starting at $200, or it might release an entirely new lower-priced Apple Watch, the Apple Watch SE.

Like the iPhone SE (2020), the Apple Watch SE could retain the design and materials of the older model, but with the latest S6 chip and upgraded internals over the Apple Watch Series 3.

Sources familiar with Apple's product launch plans told Bloomberg that there will be a cheaper version of this Apple Watch. If this proves to be true, it could be the best inexpensive smartwatch ever.

While working on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 vs. Apple Watch Series 5 showdown, I noticed that Apple is charging $50 more than Samsung to add LTE support to their smartwatch.Galaxy Watch 3 and Apple Watch 5 both start at $399, but LTE on the former starts at $449 and LTE on the latter at $499.

This is by no means a deal-breaker, but it is good to see Apple being more competitive in cellular pricing. However, it is understandable why Apple would be hesitant to do so, as making the cellular model more affordable could make people need the iPhone less.

I can only speak for myself here, but as I realize that pandemic routines will be the norm for a while, mental health awareness is becoming increasingly important to me, and while the Apple Watch is a great reminder to breathe for a few minutes each day, I'd like to have a wrist I need a few more mindfulness tools.

Fitbit Sense promises the features you want in the Apple Watch 6. As the first smartwatch with an electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor, Fitbit Sense can detect emotional arousal and even quell bouts of heightened stress.

Similar features are rumored to be coming to the Apple Watch in a few years, but many would find them useful right now; Apple may have a steady lead in life-saving features, but mental health tools are life-saving in their own right, upon the launch of Watch 6, It would be great if some related initiative is announced.
