The Apple Watch 6 is rumored to have quite a few upgrades, but one place we're not expecting an upgrade is battery life
That's one of the reasons we're so impressed with the Honor Watch GS Pro, which was just unveiled at IFA 2020 The smartwatch promises up to 25 days on a charge and 48 hours with GPS on
We got our hands on the Honor Watch GS Pro ahead of its launch and were very impressed with its design and rugged looks
The Watch GS will be available in the UK starting September 7 for €24999 (translates to roughly £233 or $295) This is because Honor is part of Huawei, and Huawei is still feuding with the US government over accusations of insecure devices and infrastructure products
The GS Pro is the first smartwatch that Honor has produced that is intended for more demanding than average workouts As such, many aspects of its design have been communicated, including head-turning battery life figures
All of that battery life is provided by 700 mAh cells; the 25-day figure is for typical usage, as it can drop to 48 hours if the GPS is left on If you are a fitness enthusiast or can't get away from the treadmill, this battery will provide 100 hours of workout tracking And either number is still better than the Apple Watch 5's less-than-24-hour lifespan
To ensure a design that can withstand even the most intense activity, Honor chose a polycarbonate body with a stainless steel bezel and a circular 139-inch (454 x 454) AMOLED display The device runs on the Kirin A1 chipset, a Huawei-designed wearable chip found in other smartwatches and audio products manufactured by Honor and Huawei
The surface of the body is slightly rough, giving it a hard feel without feeling like sandpaper The metal bezel helps to give the watch a sleek look that can be worn with more formal attire as well as sportswear The back of the watch has slightly curved edges to fit snugly on the wrist
Coupled with the plastic strap, the Watch GS Pro is understated, a pleasant surprise despite its size; Honor claims that the Watch meets some of the US military's MIL-STD-810G equipment standards, and has test data to prove it
Caller claims that the Watch meets several of the US military's MIL-STD-810G equipment standards and has obtained test data to prove it
It comes in charcoal black (pictured here) and marl white with a standard fluoro rubber strap, or if you prefer a more colorful and softer fit, there is a camo blue version with a braided nylon strap instead As for comfort while wearing the watch, I don't perceive any problems
The watch has the usual fitness tracking features, including sleep tracking, heart rate tracking, and SpO2 monitoring
Honor is making a serious push for extreme sports features with the Watch GS Pro, with skiing, hiking, and swimming being newly introduced workout modes It also provides sunrise/sunset times, tide details, moon phases, and even general weather alerts to help plan your day on hills/dunes/slopes, etc
If you get lost during an adventure but don't want to drain your battery by turning on your GPS, you can use the Watch's Route Back feature It tracks your movements during an activity and, when activated, allows you to follow a virtual trail back to your starting point
The Honor Watch GS Pro is a smartwatch made for adventurers, from its rugged design, to its spectacular rated battery life, to its outdoor sports features And the price is reasonable for what you get Final results will be provided shortly
