PS5 price revealed - for this crazy expensive gold-plated version

The price of the PS5 has not yet been announced. However, we do know how much it will cost if you want your next-generation PlayStation to be gold-plated.

Pre-orders for the Truly Exquisite gold-plated PS5 open today at 3 p.m. BST, and unlike Sony, the actual price is around £8,000 (converted to $10,421).

In case you haven't read our previous report on this decadent device, UK-based luxury customization brand Truly Exquisite is offering a gold plating service for the PS5. Truly Exquisite already provides services for the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, iPad, iPad Pro, and the upcoming iPhone 12. And if you want to feel like Mansa Musa, you can get Swarovski crystal-encrusted sneakers and electric ride-on cars.

If you want your PS5 in 18K rose gold, the price is £7,999, £8,099 if you want 24K, and £8,199 if you want a platinum finish. However, these prices are for the digital version only. Coating a standard PS5 with a disk drive will cost an additional £100 for any coating.

Of course, if the peripherals don't match the gleaming new console, they simply look terrible. So for £649 you can get a gold DualSense controller, and for £399 you can get a gold Pulse 3D wireless headset.

If you're eager, you'd better act fast. Only 250 units will be manufactured in all. The good news, however, is that they will ship the console and accessories worldwide for free and pack them in a "luxury wooden display box."

If you don't have this kind of money, we sympathize. If you're like us, you'll just have to wait until Sony itself starts taking pre-orders and announcing the console's price: the PS5 will be available in November, and the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will no doubt follow not too far behind.

This week we learned that the Xbox Series X will cost $499/£449 and the Series S $299/£249; the PS5 is expected to cost around $500-$600, and even without precious metals, Sony will have a hard time competing with its cheaper rivals.
