Oculus Quest 2 just completely leaked - and it's a big upgrade

Facebook appears to have leaked an all-in-one virtual reality headset called the Oculus Quest 2 [The site has an image that looks like a placeholder for a video clip and a subsection waiting for cover art, suggesting that the Oculus Quest 2 section of the Facebook Blueprint was released a bit prematurely [For starters, the Oculus Quest 2 features a cloth swaddled design, which should be lighter and more comfortable to wear than the plastic steps seen on the previous model It appears to be an evolution of the now-defunct Google Daydream View VR headset

However, the Oculus Quest 2 brings more than just a design change to the all-in-one VR headset table Under the hood is Qualcomm's new Snapdragon XR2, which should provide a significant increase in power over the Snapdragon 835 found in the original Quest

The Snapdragon 835 is a chip designed for smartphones, whereas the XR2 is a VR-centric chip Therefore, it should improve VR capabilities as well as performance, but Facebook has yet to elaborate on the chip's performance

The new chip will be supported with 6GB of RAM, up from 4GB in the original Quest It will also have 256GB of onboard storage, which should be sufficient for VR apps and games

One of the most significant upgrades is a 50% increase in pixels per eye on the Quest 2 display Both eyes will achieve a resolution of 2K

Speaking of displays, the Quest 2's refresh rate is rumored to be 90 Hz, an upgrade over the Quest's 72 Hz However, Facebook has not confirmed this

The controller will also be upgraded to be more ergonomic and comfortable to use And in some cases, the controller will be ditched altogether and hand tracking will be used instead

To complete the package, there will be 3D positional audio to make the entire VR experience more immersive

This seems more of a premature leak than an official announcement of the Oculus Quest 2 However, the headset is expected to be available soon and will be priced at $399, the same as the original Oculus Quest
