Forget Apple Watch6 - OnePlus Watch Launch Looks Imminent

The launch of the OnePlus Watch doesn't seem too far off, perfect timing for Android's answer to the Apple Watch 6.

As spotted by Twitter leaker Mukul Sharma, references to OnePlus' first ever smartwatch can be found on the Bureau of Indian Standards list.

As you can see from the screenshot taken by Sharma below, it is fairly easy to figure out this leak from the OnePlus name and the smartwatch category.

Typically, electronic products go through regulatory authorities in various countries just prior to launch to ensure that they comply with all relevant standards. While this is not always the case, it is certainly a strong sign that the OnePlus Watch is close to launch.

Previous OnePlus Watch rumors have suggested that it will have a round casing, which is different from the square Oppo Watch produced by its sister company. While it is expected that the two companies will share components, OnePlus appears to be using its own design.

The watch will likely feature the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset, the top silicon for wearables made by OnePlus' longtime partner Qualcomm. And Google's Wear OS would provide the software brain.

From what we've heard about the Snapdragon Wear 4100 chip, it promises up to 85% better performance and 25% longer battery life. New sensors such as the built-in camera should also be supported, but that doesn't mean the OnePlus Watch itself will make video calls.

OnePlus is preparing one more big launch event this year, probably in October. This is where the OnePlus 8T will debut and possibly the new OnePlus Nord for the mid-range market. It would also be an ideal place to showcase a new smartwatch.
