The iPhone SE Plus may have just leaked, but there is a problem

Evidence of the iPhone SE Plus, a larger version of this year's iPhone SE, was spotted yesterday before Apple's product launch event. However, that evidence has now disappeared.

The Insignia Glass Screen Protector for iPhone SE Plus was spotted at Best Buy earlier yesterday (screen captured by 9to5Mac). However, if you follow the link today you will see the listing mention the iPhone 8 Plus instead.

It's been a while since we last heard about the iPhone SE Plus, but there are rumors of a 5.5-inch mid-range iPhone based on the iPhone 8 Plus, just as the iPhone SE is based on the iPhone 8. Depending on which leaks you believe, the iPhone SE could be one of three models, the largest of which could be 6.1 inches in size.

However, the most promising information we have about the iPhone SE Plus says it will not be released until late 2021. For this reason, its appearance at yesterday's Time Flies event is likely to be some time away.

Now that the Apple event is over, we know that there were no phone-related announcements at all. So this may have been an insurance act by Best Buy in case there was an unexpected "one more" moment at the end of the presentation.

However, there is one aspect of the iPhone SE Plus we may have seen yesterday. The larger SE is rumored to also feature a Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the power button, similar to the one shown off on the new iPad Air 4. This would allow for more convenient phone unlocking and could mean that the SE Plus will have a full-screen design with gesture controls, similar to the iPhone 11 line.

The next possibility for Apple to reveal the iPhone SE Plus would be an October event, but it is more likely to be devoted to the flagship iPhone 12 line rather than the lower-priced phones. In addition to the new handsets, we expect the AirTags tracker and AirPods Studio wireless headphones to make an appearance as well.
