PS5 price and release date officially revealed — Everything you need to know

After months of fruitless speculation, Sony has finally announced the price and release date of the PS5.

No more speculation, "leaks," or endless rumors. The full-featured PS5 with disc drive will cost $499, while the PS5 Digital Edition will cost $399.

The system will be available on November 12 in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and South Korea, and November 19 in the rest of the world. Reservations will begin on September 17 at select retailers.

This information was announced at the end of Sony's PS5 live streaming in September. After introducing new titles such as Final Fantasy XVI and Spider-Man: Miles Morales (and just before teasing the next God of War game), Sony provided a very clear list of PS5 prices and release dates for each region.

As noted above, it will cost $499 and $399 in the US, and €499 and €399, £449 and £359, ¥49,980 and ¥39,980 in other regions.

This is largely in line with the expectations of most analysts and fans, although some thought that Sony would try to drastically beat its rival Microsoft. The PS5 Digital Edition, on the other hand, costs $399, $100 more than Microsoft's less powerful Xbox Series S. While the PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S cannot be compared in the same breath, this November consumers will have four different between $300 and $500 It is interesting to note that they will be able to choose from four different gaming consoles.

The PS5 release date is also somewhat surprising, as Microsoft is not planning a staggered release. Furthermore, November 12 is only two days after the release date of the Xbox Series X, November 10. Many fans had expected Sony to wait at least a week for Microsoft's hype to die down, and while the Xbox Series X will still outsell the PS5, a two-day lead may not have the same impact as waiting a week. We will have to wait and see what impact, if any, this will have on sales.

It is worth pointing out, however, that the November 19 release date will almost certainly be disappointing for Sony fans in Western Europe and elsewhere; the Xbox Series X will launch worldwide on November 10, but PS5 fans outside of the countries mentioned above will have to wait a have to wait an extra full week to get their hands on the new console.

In the grand scheme of things, this is not a very long time, but it does raise the question of which countries Sony will choose and why they will receive the device first.
