Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 just got these big upgrades to fight the Apple Watch 6

The Galaxy Watch 3 has a new rival in the form of the Apple Watch 6. However, a new update may boost the Samsung smartwatch's potential.

The new update, as noted by TizenHelp, has begun rolling out to global LTE versions of the Galaxy Watch 3, particularly the Vietnamese version.

The key change is improved battery life; the Galaxy Watch 3 already lasts about two days on a single charge, far better than the Apple Watch 5 and Apple Watch 6's 18 hours. Anything more would only reinforce that the Galaxy Watch is the longer-lasting smartwatch in this comparison.

There are also some improvements in terms of health tracking. The patch notes promise improved reliability of the VO2Max and SpO2 sensors and scoring for sleep, heart rate, and stress. Users have complained about incorrect sleep tracking scores, so hopefully this issue will be fixed.

Blood oxygen sensors are new to both the new generation Galaxy Watch and the Apple Watch; we have not yet tried the Apple Watch's health tracking feature, but anything Samsung can do to improve its own sensors would be welcome.

Both watches are priced the same, starting at $399, and it will be interesting to see which one comes out on top; the Apple Watch 6 doesn't go on sale until September 18, so we'll have a good idea whether Apple's new wearable will remain the best smartwatch you can buy will take a few days.
