Nvidia RTX3080 overclocked benchmark revealed - now this is impressive

Nvidia's new GeForce RTX 3080 may be hard to come by, but those lucky enough to get their hands on the GPU will be pleased to know that it can be significantly overclocked.

The Galax RTX 3080 SG has been overclocked to 2,340 MHz, a huge leap from the 1,710 MHz boost clock speed that comes standard with this card, and according to Wccftech, this overclock was done by Galax overclocker Ronald Buassali, an overclocker at Galax.

The overclocked RTX 3080 took on 3DMark's Port Royal benchmark and scored 13,488. It also broke the record in 3DMark Time Spy Extreme with a score of 10,595 and took the top spot for GPU performance in that benchmark.

That said, the Galax RTX 3080 SG only overclocked the GPU clock; Buassali did not touch the video memory clock or voltage control. Therefore, it is possible to extract even more power from the graphics card.

In the real world, overclocking a GPU or CPU can jump the number of frames per second in a game. However, even if the benchmark numbers are impressive, the actual benefit to the game may be negligible, especially since there may be few games that can push the performance of a new graphics card.

However, there are plenty of PC enthusiasts who love to overclock for the joy of pushing their hardware to the max. And the RTX 3080 is attractive to such people.

Moreover, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 will be available in a few days, on September 24, and promises to bring enormous graphics power for $1,499. However, if the overclocked RTX 3080 can snap at its heels, the $699 graphics card could be even more attractive and unfortunately harder to obtain.
