Google Pixel5 price just leaked, good news

The Google Pixel 5's debut is just over a week away, but its price may already be known.

Roland Quandt of WinFuture revealed these details on Twitter, promising more information to come. But what he has already told us is ample evidence of the potential for a major shakeup in the flagship cell phone world.

Quandt claims that the Pixel 5 will be priced at €629, with the Pixel 4a 5G starting at €499. This price is also in line with previous leaked information that put the price of the Pixel 5 at €629. This is equivalent to £575 or $739. However, one should not put too much faith in this figure, as it is difficult to know the exact equivalent price based on currency conversion alone.

For comparison, in Germany, the Samsung Galaxy S20 is €876 and the iPhone 11 with 64GB storage (the cheapest option) is €778. Since these are historically the two phone series that are the Pixel's closest rivals, the price difference is likely to be quite large if Quandt's leak is accurate.

This significant price drop is thanks to the rumored spec drop for the Pixel 5, which is expected to use the more powerful and cheaper Snapdragon 765G chipset instead of the Snapdragon 865, the standard Android flagship. While this means less performance, the chip should still provide all the power the Pixel 5 needs to deliver Google's trademark software-driven user experience.

Quandt's tweet also mentions that the Pixel 4a 5G is priced at €499. The price in the US has already been confirmed by Google to be $499, and we expect the same in pounds when it launches in the UK

. Google has historically offered a white Pixel in every generation, and recent leaks from European retailers suggest there will be a white Pixel 5 available. The white option could be exclusive to a particular retailer or carrier, hence why we are getting mixed messages from the rumor mill.

Google's big launch event for the Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, and possibly some new Nest and Chromecast devices is set for September 30. Other major changes to the flagship Pixel include a new punch-hole selfie camera first introduced in the Pixel 4a, the default Android 11 operating system, and dual main/ultrawide rear cameras.
