The new Nvidia RTX3080 upgrade has just leaked and could shatter AMD Big Navi

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 has only just been released, but alongside the GeForce RTX 3060, there are some pretty big rumors of a new 20GB version coming.

A presentation by graphics card maker Galax, spotted by VideoCardz, shows off a 20GB version of the RTX 3080 alongside the 10GB version of the GPU currently available. The presentation also listed the GeForce RTX 3060, but did not mention any specs for that card.

The 20GB GeForce RTX 3080 is probably a "Super" or "Ti" version of the vanilla graphics card. We have seen Nvidia do this with the GeForce RTX 2080, but the RTX 2080 Ti was a launch card and the Super version came much later. However, it is possible that this Galax presentation is just a GPU roadmap that Nvidia may be working on to push to card partners, rather than a clue that new additions to the RTX 3000 series are on the way.

Nevertheless, Nvidia often follows its high-end graphics cards with mid-range variants that include "60" in the model name. Therefore, we would be willing to bet big money on rumors that the GeForce RTX 3060 is in development and will appear at the end of the year or in early 2021.

Such a graphics card, if spec'd and priced well enough, would further challenge AMD's Radeon graphics cards in the mid-range GPU space. And it would likely be a competitor to AMD's Radeon RX 6000 series.

The Radeon RX 6000 series, led by AMD Big Navi, is expected to introduce at least one powerful graphics card to compete with the RTX 3080, as well as other cards that will challenge Nvidia in various tiers.

In that light, a powered-up RTX 3080 will help Nvidia keep Big Navi at bay without having to rely on the very expensive and very powerful $1,499 GeForce RTX 3090. The RTX 3060 would also be able to compete with new mid-range and mainstream Radeon graphics cards.

Galax's presentation also mentioned an unnamed graphics card with a model number of "PG142 SKU 0" that may be a Super variant of the GeForce RTX 3070, which has not yet been released but is Speaking of October, AMD will be announcing a new Radeon graphics card on October 28.

AMD Big Navi will appear in October, PS5 and Xbox Series X will appear in November, and new Nvidia RTX 3000 series graphics cards will be available.
