It seems lightning has struck twice: a week ago, Amazon sent an email to those who had pre-ordered the PS5, informing them that the console might not arrive on the first day And now the e-commerce giant is sending the same message to those who set their alarms to order the Xbox Series X early
On Twitter, people eagerly awaiting the Xbox Series X are sharing a disappointing email from Amazon 'We are contacting you regarding your Xbox Series X order to let you know in advance that due to high demand, we may not be able to deliver it on the release date'
"We are making every effort with our suppliers to source more inventory As more information becomes available, we will provide additional information"
This is almost identical to the wording of Amazon's PS5 warning, only without the reassurance that "we will make every effort to get the product to you as soon as possible once it is available" Perhaps the semi-automated nature of this email is a sign that Amazon is just being cautious, but there is no way of knowing at this point
This is just the latest setback in an already rather stressful pre-order process, to say the least Microsoft got off to a brighter start than Sony by announcing the pre-order start date and time, but the process quickly turned into a complete disaster
Matthew Murray, our head of testing, outlined his own experience trying to get the unit here He said, "Every website was overloaded in some way, and all gave us the odd error message or problem" Amazon was no exception, with errors on the Series X and no option at all to purchase the entry-level Series S model
Amazon's email put Day One hopefuls in a difficult situation After all, it does not say that you absolutely cannot get a Day One machine, just that you "may not get one" So what should shoppers do if they have more pre-order options in the coming weeks? Do they double up? Or will they just roll the dice and hope that Amazon delivers, figuratively and literally?
Microsoft has not followed Sony's lead in apologizing for the flood of pre-orders or promising more units in advance, but the company did tweet that it "expects more consoles to be available on November 10"
Given that November 10 is the actual release date, this is probably no consolation to those who thought they had worked through the confusion to get their consoles on the first day Still, if you're currently empty-handed and no more pre-order inventory shows up between now and then, it would be best to set your alarm for the early hours of November 10
