AMD Big Navi's key specs just leaked and it's not coming alone

TechPowerUp's GPU Database has a new listing for a trio of AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards, suggesting that the Big Navi really does have the specs to challenge the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080.

GPU Database lists the Radeon RX 6900 XT and RX 6800 XT, both Navi 21 GPUs, aka Big Navi. This means that two Big Navi cards may exist.

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is listed as having 16GB of GDDR6 video memory, a 256-bit interface, and running at 1,350 MHz to 2,000 MHz. It also has 5,120 stream processors, which equates to 80 compute units 9CUs.

In contrast, the GeForce RTX 3080 has 10 GB of GDDR6X with a 320-bit interface and a boost clock of 1,710 MHz. By using faster memory and a larger memory interface bus, the RTX 3080 can compensate for lower clock speeds and less memory. However, the RX 6900 XT may outperform the RTX 3080.

These specs are consistent with what we have heard so far about Big Navi. However, we thought the RX 6800 XT would be the Big Navi. However, the GPU Database listings are configured with 12 GB of VRAM, a 192-bit memory bus, clock speeds of 1,489 MHz to 2,000 MHz, and 3,840 stream processors.

While these are solid specs, they can also be confusing, since the number of stream processors translates to 60 CUs. However, we have not heard any leaks or rumors of GPUs with that number of CUs. This means that a second Navi 21 card is in development that may challenge Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3070.

The above and the following are to be taken with a grain of salt, as we do not know where this information came from.

Next up is the Radeon RX 6700 XT. This is a Navi 22 graphics card, believed to be codenamed Navy Flounder, and is said to have the same specs as the RX 6800 XT, but with 2,560 fewer stream processors. This is equivalent to 40 CUs and is what one would expect from a graphics card positioned below Big Navi. Such a graphics card is expected to fit between the RTX 3070 and the upcoming GeForce RTX 3060.

Coming in behind is the Navi 23 graphics card, the Radeon RX 6500 XT. we have heard rumors of the Navi 23 before, and it was said to be a graphics card that would compete with low-end GPUs. according to GPU Database, it has 10GB of GDDR6 VRAM, 160-bit memory bus, 1,489 MHz base clock, 2,000 MHz boost, 2,048 stream processors, and 32 CUs. 3060 folds on its heels, but is expected to undercut it in price. [The Radeon RX 6000 series essentially consists of a series of graphics cards that will challenge Nvidia's new GeForce RTX 3000 series; Big Navi will likely steal the limelight, but offer an attractive blend of strong performance and affordability will likely be a less powerful card.

For those looking to purchase a gaming PC this fall, there could be all kinds of offerings that offer different performance tiers at powerful prices. Sure, the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be available in November, but it is still a very good time to become a PC gamer.
