Samsung Galaxy S21 can steal the best features of OnePlus8T

Samsung may be seriously increasing the charging speed of its upcoming Galaxy flagship, based on recently revealed details of a Korean certification.

Dutch site GalaxyClub has unearthed documents referring to a new 65-watt "travel adapter" named EP-TA865. The current maximum speed at which Samsung's latest flagship can charge is 45 watts, but most of the company's devices ship with 15 or 25 watt bricks.

The 65-watt charge would not be the first time the Samsung Galaxy S21 reaches that threshold, but it would be another considerable step up in speed. We have already seen 65W adapters from Oppo, Xiaomi, and others, and OnePlus will join them with the upcoming OnePlus 8T. OnePlus claims that this will allow the 8T to reach 58% capacity in 15 minutes and full capacity in 35 minutes.

The OnePlus 8T will have a 4,500mAh battery, a size that is likely to be found in at least one of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S21 series phones. The recently announced Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also has a 4,500mAh power pack, but in our tests with a built-in 25W brick, it reached 56% after 30 minutes of charging.

Samsung's current 45W brick is priced at $50, and unless Samsung surprises us, owners will have to shell out a good amount for a 65W charge.

Samsung's current flagship also has the best wireless charging at 15W, which is decent but not the fastest we've seen. On that note, OnePlus is back in the lead with the OnePlus 8 Pro, introducing 30W wireless charging, which is twice as fast; OnePlus typically limits more premium features like wireless charging to its most premium models, so the OnePlus 8T will not support this feature It is expected that it will not. From faster refresh rates to 5G connectivity, modern smartphones are demanding more power, and battery sizes have ballooned in recent years. Given that Samsung frequently releases new handsets with the latest and greatest technologies and features, the Galaxy S21 will no doubt benefit from improved peak charging speeds.
