PS5 Cross generation save is confusing — here's why

The upcoming rally racing game Dirt 5 has taken another hit after the PS5 announced that PS4 save data cannot be transferred to the next-generation PlayStation.

This comes directly from the game's developer, Codemasters, in a reply to users from the official Dirt Twitter account. In Dirt 5, PlayStation and Xbox users can upgrade their games to the new generation for free. However, the content that can be transferred over differs between the two.

Transferring saved data from the PS4 to the PS5 will maintain the user's playground (custom-made races and stunt arenas). However, progression data from career mode, as well as the user's currency and liveries, will not be carried over. On Xbox, on the other hand, all progressions can be transferred between Xbox One and Xbox Series X.

: PS4 save data cannot be transferred to PS5, despite offering a free upgrade to the next-generation version. However, it is not impossible for Sony to offer cross-generational saves, which is exactly what they offer with the "Spider-Man" remaster. [Microsoft's Smart Delivery feature promises that one can own one copy of the game that runs on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC and transfer save data between them.

As Eurogamer noted, Larry Hryb, director of programming for Xbox Live, and Aaron Greenberg, general manager of marketing for Xbox Games, both tweeted that these issues are not problems in the Xbox ecosystem The ability to move games between gaming PCs and consoles without hindrance, even for PlayStation owners, is a compelling reason to choose the Series X over the PS5, even if they lose the cross-generational benefits.

The PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S are currently available for pre-order, and both Sony and Microsoft will officially launch the new consoles in November. the PS5 lacks the smart delivery features of the Series X and has a slightly less powerful GPU, but the new features for immersive gaming, such as dual-sense controllers and 3D audio capabilities, have been added.
