Battery life is perhaps the most important specification in your phone. Having high-performance features is all well and good, but they are useless without the power to use them. Therefore, anything that can improve or extend battery life is welcome.

The Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G have a battery saver mode, which Google promises up to 48 hours of battery life. However, Google plans to bring this feature to older Pixel phones as well.

The Pixel series' regular battery saver is designed to limit the apps and features that are active on the phone. The Extreme Battery Saver, as the name implies, takes it to the extreme. In addition to the standard battery saver features, it pauses most non-essential apps, turns off unnecessary functions, and slows down phone processes.

This is likely why Google will offer Extreme Battery Saver to older devices as part of future feature reductions. When you need to extend battery life as long as possible, you need all the help you can get.

Unfortunately, we don't know anything more than the fact that "very soon," and Google has also given us no indication as to which Pixel devices are set to get the new battery extension feature.

The Pixel 4, notorious for its short battery life, is practically guaranteed to get it, as are the 4G Pixel 4a and Pixel 3a. The situation becomes a bit more perilous the further back one goes, and it is not clear if older devices will continue to be supported.

Google ended support for the original Pixel late last year and promised that support for the Pixel 2 would end after the release of Android 11, so it is likely that the Pixel 3 will be the oldest Google phone that can use Extreme Battery Saver It seems likely. That was released last month.

Still, if you've been using a relatively recent Pixel device, you have something to look forward to. Especially if you've been plagued by the Pixel 4's terrible battery performance over the past year.
