PS5 backward compatibility gets this killer feature for playing PS4 games

More details have emerged about how PS4 games will work on the PS5, with a library of supported PS4 content popping up in the menu once you log into your PSN account and start using Sony's PS5.

This is according to Hideaki Nishino, Sony's senior vice president of platform planning and management, who told Game Informer a bit more about what we can expect from PS5 backward compatibility.

"We know that our fans spend a lot of time building their PS4 game collections, and library portability is extremely important to us. When you sign in to your PS5™ account, your library of content played on the PS4™ will automatically appear in the menu. We are also very pleased to be able to support the transition from PS4™ to PS5™."

He stated.

While we already know about the latter part, it is interesting to learn that PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games could be a rather seamless process.

However, it is not yet known exactly how PS4 games will run on PS5 hardware. Sony has previously detailed the PS5's various backward-compatibility emulation modes, which will curb the PS5's power so that it can run older games without difficulty. However, for PS4 games, we expect to see some form of performance improvement, especially in loading times.

Hands-on with the Xbox Series X has shown that Xbox One games load significantly faster and benefit from improved frame rates, even when not optimized for Microsoft's next-generation console hardware. If the PS5 does not, it could be quite disappointing.

There are rumors that the PS5 will boost PS4 games. And since the PS Plus Collection is a subscription service that offers a number of PS4-exclusive games for the PS5, it is expected that there will be some optimization, even if it is just smoothing out the load times and frame rates of games like "Bloodborne".

The PS5 will launch in the U.S. on November 12, so it won't be long before we see how well the console's backward compatibility is enhanced. For those who want to get their hands on a PS5 console before its release, pre-orders for the PS5 have begun, but most stores are quickly selling out.
