There is so much mobile technology on discount for Prime Day, and some of that technology is for the great outdoors. Garmin enters the fray with the $199 Approach S40 smartwatch, and it may be the last golf companion you'll ever need.

We've been fans of Garmin devices for years, counting them among our top picks for fitness watches. And just like the other golf-centric models we've tested, the Garmin Approach S40 gets consistently high consumer reviews. If you've been looking for a stylish smartwatch to improve your long game (and look good doing it), this wearable is worth a look.

If you're serious about running, hiking, rock climbing, or other outdoor activities, the best sports watches are worthwhile investments. The same goes for golf.

While many of the best fitness trackers and best smartwatches incorporate location tracking into the device itself to accurately record your outdoor workouts, a dedicated GPS watch like the Garmin Approach S40 is much more about what you are doing data and last much longer on a charge. Plus, at $199 (down from $299), it's a bargain.

The 1.2-inch color touchscreen display is sunlight-readable for those bright days, and auto-shot detection measures the distance of detected shots. (Putts, unfortunately, are not tracked.)

By the way, there is much to like about this product line. For example, the more expensive Garmin Approach S62 offers a sharper look, larger screen and longer battery life than its Garmin Approach S60 predecessor. It also supports a virtual caddy feature that provides club suggestions and other shot tips based on past rounds. While it is not guaranteed to improve your golf game, the insights offered by the virtual caddy will not feel gimmicky and may benefit you if you tend to experiment with your club selection.
