Reservations for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro opened last Friday for an October 23 launch. iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max models will have to wait until November 6, but Apple appears to be having a very good year.

According to TF Securities analyst Minqi Kuo, between 7 and 9 million units were reserved this past weekend. Incidentally, this is about the same number of units sold the weekend the iPhone 11 went on sale.

Apple sold 10 to 12 million units of the iPhone 11 series during the first weekend, with an estimated 500,000 to 800,000 units sold in a 24-hour period. iPhone 12 series sales reached an estimated 1.7 to 2 million units in the same time period.

Apple still has two models left, with the low-cost iPhone 12 Mini and the top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro Max waiting on the sidelines. Given the former's small size and the latter's professional-grade camera capabilities, both are likely to be popular with customers.

Nevertheless, Kuo does not expect these devices to sell as well as the 12 and 12 Pro. He estimates that iPhone 12 and 12 Pro sales will account for 30-35% of iPhone 12 series shipments in Q4 2020, while iPhone 12 Mini and Pro Max will account for 10-15% and 15-20%, respectively.

AppleInsider notes that Kuo had previously predicted that the iPhone 12 Mini would account for a larger percentage of this year's shipments, but this change was due to the model's smaller display and lack of dual-SIM, and interest in China The company attributed this to the lack of interest in China. Instead, the Chinese market is paying more attention to the iPhone 12 Pro.

In other words, all is well for Apple. Sales are on track to surpass last year's effort, even though the two models have yet to appear, and one of the world's largest smartphone markets has decided that it wants the more expensive model. Cupertino must be full of very happy people right now.
