The Apple One subscription bundle starts today (October 30) I never thought I'd say that until I realized how much I've already spent on one of Apple's services
Yes, for me, it's all about iCloud Or should I say it's because of iCloud Photo Library But first, let me explain what you get for your Apple One monthly payment
Apple One starts at $15/month and includes Apple Music, Apple TV Plus, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage; the $20 family tier adds another 200GB of iCloud and allows up to 5 people to sharing the plan with up to five people
The $30 Premier plan adds Apple News Plus and the upcoming Apple Fitness Plus and expands iCloud storage to 2TB It also expands iCloud storage to 2TB and can be shared with up to 5 users
As you might expect, the more you use, the more you save, and you can save quite a bit even if you don't subscribe to any of them, but the individual plan will be discounted by $6 per month, the family plan by $8 per month, and the Premier plan by $25 per month
So far, I'm firmly locked into two of Apple's services, and grateful enough to subscribe to Apple One for the other two; Apple Music has cloud storage for $999 per month, a feature no other streaming service has, and the official It helps me keep rare releases on hand that are never released
Apple TV Plus ($499/month) has captured my interest with the excellent "Ted Lasso," which was just renewed for two seasons; "Beastie Boys Story" and "Mythic Quest: The Morning Show" took a while to "get good" It took a while, but "Raven's Banquet" was also good
Apple Arcade (also $499/month) is another service that I appreciate rather than being tied to, and I keep turning it on and off
Besides, I have over 135,000 photos and 2,990 videos stored in the Photos app, pushing me beyond Apple Cloud's 200GB plan to the $999/month 2TB plan I pay for It is this aspect of my decision to continue using Apple's service that makes me both happy and annoyed
Apple only offers three iCloud storage capacities: 50GB for $099/month, 200GB for $299/month, and 2TB for $999 Why not offer a 1TB plan - I only use 650GB of my 2TB iCloud storage and I feel that paying for this wasted space is a total waste
And if you haven't done the math yourself at home: the sum of all the above is $30/month, the same as the cost of Apple One Premier In other words, if you can get Apple News Plus and the upcoming Apple Fitness Plus (both $999/month on their own), it makes a lot of sense to buy the whale-sized package
Apple News Plus is going to have its moments where it helps me get around the paywalls I already resist (I pay for the New York Times, which left Apple News Plus in August), but I honestly think Apple Fitness Plus would be a big win for me
Since we live in the age of workout from home, you can't convince me that it's safe to go to the gym during this pandemic - I've been relying on Nintendo's Ring Fit adventure game to keep my body in shape during these last few months So far, so good, but this game seems to be coming to an end, and after three months of 30 minutes of daily exercise, it's getting a bit repetitive [However, the Apple Fitness Plus has a lot of variety, and the activity monitoring is much better, as it connects directly to the Apple Watch
That said, I have already set a reminder 29 days after my Apple One membership began And I plan to set one for 29 days after my Apple Fitness Plus starts Why? Because when you use a monthly service, you don't have to set it and forget it when you can save yourself money by simply reducing your overall expenses
