Apple Watch Just Got the Killer Spotify Upgrade: How to Use It Now

All Apple Watch owners will soon be able to stream Spotify content to their wrists, as Spotify rolls out a feature to users that turns Apple's smartwatch into an audio source for Bluetooth headphones and speakers

It seems like this feature should have already existed, but it is a welcome upgrade for Spotify users who wear an Apple Watch It will make the Apple Watch more convenient when a paired iPhone is not nearby and will also allow playback control via Siri

Of course, the Apple Watch must be connected to Wi-Fi or a cellular plan to stream from Spotify Also, this feature is limited to users of the Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 6 or later

As of Wednesday morning, I was able to try this feature on an Apple Watch Series 6 running watchOS 7 When I opened the Spotify app on the watch, I saw an option labeled Beta that allowed me to redirect audio to my AirPods Pro Previously, only nearby AirPlay-equipped speakers could be selected as the source

Users already had the ability to control Apple's native Music, Podcasts, and Audiobooks apps from their Apple Watch when a paired iPhone was not nearbySpotify has been a popular choice for quite a few Apple popular third-party music service for Watch users (myself included) It also helps Spotify's case in terms of navigating the best Apple Watch apps

Spotify has not stated how quickly this new streaming feature will roll out, but this blog post notes that if you have not yet updated to the latest version of Spotify on your iPhone, you should do so
