Samsung Galaxy S21 leak reveals a strange case — here's what you're looking at first

It's already been a few weeks since we first saw the Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra, and since then there have been a series of leaks about what we should expect from these phones.

Today is a little different. We have leaked images of the case that corroborate the slightly odd design aesthetic of Samsung's upcoming flagship.

The camera array on the back of the S21 isn't that strange, but the Galaxy S21 Ultra's bulky four- or five-lens module (depending on who you ask) is something else entirely. In any case, these two are the focus of attention in a new image posted by Ice Universe on Twitter, suggesting that these are indeed the true design.

The standard Galaxy S21 case is pretty, well, standard. It is a very typical leather case with a cut-out section where the camera lens is visible. Unfortunately, the wraparound design of the camera module means that the corners of the phone are not fully protected from any bumps or drops that might occur. It does not look very good.

The same can be said for the S21 Ultra, although slightly worse, as the module itself is about twice as wide as the S21. There are a couple of odd things, however: first, the image is clearly a very roughly Photoshopped version of someone holding a cell phone. Given Ice Universe's reputation, we have no doubt this came from Samsung. This would not be the first time a company has raked up a placeholder image in Photoshop.

Interestingly, the images only show the S21 Ultra with four lenses, not five as OnLeaks claims. We have already heard that the S21 Ultra will have two optical zoom lenses, a 108MP main lens, and possibly some sort of ultra-wide angle lens; the fifth lens is a mystery, and we speculated that it could be a time-of-flight sensor, or that Samsung could follow Apple with a LiDAR sensor. speculated that it could be.

But if there is no fifth lens, there is no mystery. Especially since Ice Universe has already said that the S21 Ultra will not have a ToF sensor. It remains to be seen which leaker is correct and how many camera lenses the Ultra will have.

Fortunately, we don't have to wait too long as the release date for the S21 series has already been leaked. Expect to see the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus, and S21 Ultra on January 14, ahead of the January 29 release date.
