Xbox Series X just killed this important feature — and PS5 has it

One of the Xbox One's best features was its local streaming capability, which allowed users to play games on a nearby Windows 10 PC while running games on the console via the Xbox Companion app. [Microsoft MVP Radael Rivera discovered this news, which can be found on the Xbox support page.

Nearly all Xbox games, including Xbox exclusive titles, are available on Windows PCs, but not exactly the same. This is mainly due to the fact that one needs a PC capable of running these games in the first place. The streaming method, on the other hand, can be played on almost any machine while the console does all the work.

Not to mention the cost of the components needed to run these games on Xbox Series X level specs.

The obvious question is why Microsoft discontinued this feature, especially when the Series X supports remote play on Android and iOS devices. Microsoft may want to lure PC owners to its xCloud streaming service (assuming the service is launched on PCs), but they have nothing to lose by having the games they already own transferred to another machine.

Either way, this is one bonus for the PS5: the PlayStation blog FAQ confirms that PC-centric remote play will be supported on the PS5, with console to Android, iOS, and older PS4 consoles. Streaming options are also available.

Hopefully Microsoft will recognize its error and bring back this feature fairly soon. Even if, like the Xbox One, they have to limit games to lower resolutions.
