Samsung may already offer the Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone and the even higher-end Galaxy Z Fold 2. However, according to a teaser released by the display division, it appears that Samsung is not sticking to just two elements of foldable phones.

The idea here seems to be to create a display that provides more screen area by means of a foldable phone with an added hinge. That would also mean creasing within the display, another point at which the screen could fail.

The idea of a phone with an even larger screen is appealing, but more moving parts could lead to new problems like the ones Samsung experienced with the first Galaxy Fold in 2019. To Samsung's credit, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 addresses these issues with some welcome changes to the phone's design.

Samsung Display also showed off an attractive tablet that looks like it rolled out of a tube, with the user typing on the screen against a hard surface. We have actually seen patents for both types of displays, but nothing from Samsung that has been realized in that way.

Of course, Samsung Display did not say when we might expect this new phone or when it might be released in any kind. If there are specific plans for this type of device, we cannot yet know them. It is more likely that these images are simply a fun way to represent ideas that the manufacturer has had in the past and form factors that could be put together in the near future.

A sequel to the Galaxy Z Flip is likely the next Samsung foldable to hit the market, and we could see it appear alongside the Galaxy S21 flagship phone rumored for early 2021. rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 3 also gaining steam, but this model is not expected to appear until later this year. If it does appear, the new Fold could replace the Galaxy Note in Samsung's lineup.
