iPhone12 has a strange problem - what you Need to know

Every gadget has bugs when it is first released, and the iPhone 12 is no exception. Apple's latest smartphone has already had its fair share of problems, but this new issue affects the battery.

Some users have reported problems with the iPhone 12's power consumption, saying that the battery drains too quickly - even when the phone is in standby mode.

Historically, the iPhone has not had good battery life.

And our tests showed that the iPhone 12 does not perform as well as the iPhone 11 (10 hours 23 minutes vs. 11 hours 16 minutes on 4G), meaning it is still a concern in 2020. But that shouldn't lead to a 20-40% power drain when the phone is not in use overnight.

Apple Communities forum member Master26A raised this issue in October, reporting a 4% per hour battery drain on his iPhone 12 Pro. Since then, others have reported the same thing, with battery drain even when not using the phone. Some turned off features known to consume power, such as 5G and background app activity, to no avail.

According to ApplePears88, Apple support ran diagnostics on their iPhone 12 and found no problems: "Spoke with Apple support today. I spoke with Apple support today and they said everything was fine after running diagnostics. What this would mean is that there is a software issue that is causing the battery to drain. Quit all apps, turn off background app refresh, turn off Bluetooth, losing 40% charge overnight is not 100% normal. To illustrate, here is my overnight battery display.

Their graph shows the level of battery depletion and shows a very even loss of power regardless of what the phone is doing - whether it is in active use, standby, or even low power mode. Odiebla, who says he is a mobile engineer outside of Apple, also had a graph showing similar power loss rates.

It's not particularly nice to get a new phone and notice that the battery tends to deplete for no apparent reason. At least one Apple support thread and another on Reddit confirm that hundreds of people are affected.

But as noted above, this is not the first problem the iPhone 12 has encountered. We have already heard about problems with cellular service, touchscreen sensitivity, display flickering, and side effects from using MagSafe.

Let's hope that, like all the other iPhone 12 problems that have surfaced, this unusual battery drain is a software issue and can be fixed soon.
