Despite Apple's mockery of the iPhone 12 shipping without a charger, there are many stories that Samsung will do the exact same thing with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21.

While this has been little more than rumor and speculation, there is now some evidence that Samsung is following in Apple's footsteps. Thanks to the documents from ANATEL, the Brazilian regulatory agency, we now know that Samsung is following in the footsteps of Apple.

ANATEL is the local equivalent of the FCC, so what was filed there tells us exactly what Samsung plans to sell in Brazil. The documents contain few details about the Galaxy S21, but they seem to confirm that there are no other accessories in the box. Specifically, there is no charger or headphones.

Brazilian site Technoblog also confirmed that the battery capacity of the three Galaxy S21 smartphones is 4,000 mAh, 4,800 mAh, and 5,000 mAh, respectively. In any case, these numbers are consistent with previous information, although there are no major surprises.

However, the charger is the big story here. Apple has been criticized for its decision not to include a charger with the iPhone 12. The company says the decision was made to reduce electronic waste, but many have accused the move of being a financial one.

The iPhone 12 is packaged in a smaller, lighter box to reduce Apple's carbon footprint as well as shipping costs. However, for fast charging, one must purchase a $19 USB-C to Lightning adapter.

Samsung was quick to mock Apple's decision during the iPhone 12 launch window, as it did when Apple ditched the headphone jack. But as usual, Samsung seems to be following in the footsteps of its rivals and imitating them. Of course, if Apple can cut costs by ditching the boxed charger, so can Samsung.

Unfortunately for Samsung, Apple is under fire from the Brazilian government for not including a charger in the box. If they intend to follow Apple's lead, Samsung may be told they must supply free chargers as well.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 series is set to debut in just over a month and has three different phones for people to choose from. We'll have to wait and see what the official line is about the missing chargers, or whether Samsung plans to say nothing and hope no one notices.
