There is no shortage of strange news in 2020. The latest is the news that the PS5 is more sought after than many other necessities, including the Xbox Series X and toilet paper.

According to Google's biggest search terms of the year, Sony's new game console turned out to be more popular than the basic household items that people rushed to buy when the coronavirus outbreak became a global pandemic. Concerns about running out of toilet paper are a fart compared to concerns about where to buy PS5.

Overall, this has been something of a tumultuous year for purchasing. The coronavirus outbreak caused people to panic and start stocking up on supplies they thought (and thought) they might run out of. These included face masks, hand sanitizers, and toilet paper.

It was pretty silly that people immediately jumped to toilet paper, especially given that there was no major reason for supplies to run out. However, the confusion and panic surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and the ensuing blockade caused more people to Google "where can I buy toilet paper?"

However, as people became accustomed to life under a global pandemic, this search, the second most Googled search in 2020, was overtaken in the U.S. by "where to buy PS5."

The search for where to buy PS5 and toilet paper was followed by where to buy face masks, where to buy Xbox Series X, and where to buy hand sanitizer.

Given how difficult it is to purchase next-generation game consoles, it is not surprising that people are actively Googling where to get them; demand for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S is high and supply is not keeping up. It doesn't help that duffers continue to buy up consoles to make a profit.

This is also further evidence that the PS5 is more popular than the Xbox Series X.

Google's list also reveals much about the year in search here in the US. The biggest news event was, unsurprisingly, the election results, but the stimulus package and coronavirus also topped several categories.

In lighter categories, Google proved that Tiger King once again reigned as the most searched TV show, while Best Picture winner Parasite and indie hit Along Us took the top spots in Movies and Games. what does "WAP" mean? There are also plenty of odd searches, including people struggling to understand, many searches about ice age babies, and why chainsaws were invented.
