PS5 Replenishment disaster - Do not expect a new console before 2021

You may be eagerly awaiting the PS5, but it is going to be nearly impossible to get your hands on one this year. In the UK, the PS5 is not expected to be in stock again until 2021. And the situation is not much better in the US either

Major retailers have indicated that the PS5 will not be restocked before the holiday season, with both Argos and Smyths saying that the PS5 will not be in stock until next year.

"There will be no further inventory for the remainder of 2020," the Argos website declares. A customer service representative at the retailer also tweeted: "PS5 stock has run out.

And Smyths seems to be in the same situation, stating only that they "expect" to have more in stock in 2021, although no exact date was given.

Unfortunately, trying to find out where to buy the PS5 in the UK, US, and beyond has been quite fruitless. Both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition are sold out almost everywhere.

In the UK and US, there have been some restocks, but as soon as stock comes in, they are sold out again. And in the UK, retailer Asda had hoped for more PS5 stock, but declared that there would be no PS5 consoles until "after Christmas", probably 2021.

Electronics retailer Currys was also expected to have a significant restock of PS5s. However, according to the PS5 UK Stock Instant Update, logistical problems have delayed replenishment.

With reports of PS5 consoles being stolen from lorries on their way to retailers, it is not surprising that increasing PS5 stock is a logistical nightmare.

The PS5 restocking situation in the UK does not bode well for US retailers trying to stock up in time for the holiday season either.

Walmart, Target, and Sony Direct stores seem to be slowly getting the PS5 back in stock. However, we are doing multiple inventory checks daily and refer you to our guide on where to buy the PS5.

In other cases, the PS5 appears to be in stock, but was sold out when people placed their orders.

Sony has stated that it is working to supply more PS5 inventory to retailers, but there is no firm date yet when we can expect a significant increase in PS5 inventory. However, no firm date is yet known when PS5 inventory can be expected to increase significantly.

Ultimately, 2021 would seem to be a good time to get a PS5. This is because next year is expected to bring big titles like "Horizon Forbidden West" and "God of War 2," which could be killer exclusives for Sony's new console.

In fact, we have already declared that 2021 will be the year of the PS5.
