How to Make Video Calls using Echo Show

If you're looking for a way to make video calls with your Echo Show, you've come to the right place.

Whether you use the Echo Show, the compact Echo Show 5, or my personal favorite, the Echo Show 8, you can make video calls to and from any Alexa-enabled smart display.

Since video calling is one of the best Alexa skills, it's worth knowing how to initiate a video call, especially when you can't see certain family members or friends in person. Best of all, you can make calls to your Echo Show even if you only have your smartphone.

If you have one of the traditional Echo speakers mentioned in our ranking of the best Alexa speakers, you can also make regular calls; here's how to make a voice call using Alexa.

Of course, you can also make voice-only calls using Echo Show. But sometimes it's better to chat while seeing the other person's face.

Here's how to make a video call using Echo Show.

To make a video call using the Echo Show, first make sure the person you want to talk to has the Alexa app set up on their phone and also owns an Echo Show.

There are two ways to initiate a call: audio and tapping the Echo Show display. Both methods are described below.

Step 1: Say "Alexa, video call to [contact name]." Alexa may ask you to verify the other person's contact information before initiating the call.

Step 2: Wait for the other person to answer. If you do not see yourself on the screen, make sure the device's camera shutter is not closed or the camera off icon is not selected. If you did not intend to make the call, click the red hang up button or say "Alexa, end video call."

Step 1: Swipe the right side of the display to the left to open the Echo Show features menu. In the menu that appears, click on "Communications."

Step 2: Click on "Show Contacts" to display your contact list. Scroll through to find the contact of the person you wish to contact and select their name.

Step 3: On the contact's information page, click the call icon under the "Alexa Device" menu. This will initiate a video call.

Now you know how to make a video call using the Echo Show, Echo Show 5, or Echo Show 8. You can also make video calls using Amazon's voice assistant even if you only have the Alexa app on your phone.

You can also make group calls with the Echo Show. However, all members of the call must first opt-in to Alexa's group calling feature.

To make a group video call on Echo Show, create a group of contacts within the Alexa app. Then say "Alexa, video call [contact group name]" to initiate the call.
