Forget PS5: The KFC console has Intel inside and warms your chicken

Remember when KFC Gaming posted a video on Twitter this past June claiming that it was developing a 4K 120fps gaming console? Most people passed it off as a joke, but as it turns out, KFC's vision became a reality. And thanks to a partnership with manufacturer Cooler Master, it will soon be here.

Named KFConsole, the gaming rig will be housed in Cooler Master's custom CN100 and will be powered by an Intel NUC 9. It will also be equipped with an Asus RTX graphics card and 1TB of Seagate NVME SSD storage.

The exact processor and GPU of the KFConsole are unknown, but its main claim to fame will not be its resolution and frame rate output. Instead, a chicken warmer is built into the console to keep the tenders deliciously hot while playing "Among Us."

The console was originally scheduled to launch on November 12, but as with the rest of the gaming industry, the COVID-19 craze derailed Colonel Sanders' plans. According to a Twitter post last month, KFC was aiming for a December launch, but given that Christmas is fast approaching, it will likely be pushed back to 2021. Yes, KFC took a cheeky jab at Cyberpunk 2077's October Twitter post announcing the game's postponement.

The system was designed by professional PC modder Tim "Timpelay" Malmborg, a member of Cooler Master's CMODX team; Malmborg had to work quite a bit to get the Intel NUC 9 and chicken warmer all to fit comfortably. time, so it appears that KFC rendered the unit before consulting with the designer.

"The hardest part was figuring out the entire internal layout to make it as compact as possible and still keep the hardware cool enough," Malmborg told our sister site Tom's Hardware. The cylindrical bucket design and chicken bays are two separate features that are difficult to work with on their own." And combined with a high-performance PC, we had to spend days creating a 3D model for them.

Interestingly, the NUC 9 and the chicken warmer are not two separate devices sandwiched together. Instead, the heat from the NUC 9 is used to keep the chicken warm. This innovative design requires excellent sealing, because if oil or grease seeps through the walls into the NUC 9, it is not good for the PC components.

"The feedback from KFC fans was so great that we couldn't help but bring the console to life," said Steve James, global PR and influencer manager for Cooler Master, in a statement to Tom's Hardware. James, global PR and influencer manager for Cooler Master, said in a statement to Tom's Hardware.

"We met with the team, exchanged a few ideas, and really took it from there.

In other words, it appears that to some extent it started as a KFC joke and became an actual product thanks to the tremendous interest online. Interestingly, KFC and Cooler Master are aiming to put competitive hardware on this system,

comparable to the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

KFC is also looking at the possibility of using the system in the future.

Pricing and availability of the KFConsole has not been announced; hopefully the PS5 will not be in short supply.
