Reveal Galaxy Z Flip3 Killer Capable of Collapsible iPhone Leak

It is no secret from multiple reports and patents that Apple is working on a foldable iPhone or iPhone Flip. And now some possible details have emerged about the direction of Apple's first foldable design.

A new video posted by Apple analyst Jon Prosser has a mixed track record regarding leaks and states that Apple is testing a prototype of a clamshell design for the foldable iPhone.

In the video Prosser says Apple has two foldable iPhones in development. The first is not a true foldable, in that it will have two displays with a hinge in the center. However, the design with the foldable displays is at the heart of this new report.

Prosser claims that there is a shell of this clamshell device being tested at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen. Why only a shell? Apparently, Apple is initially testing the durability of the hinge.

As for the display itself, Apple is reportedly working with Samsung to source a foldable OLED panel for the iPhone flip. So while Apple is investing heavily in this technology for the iPad and other products, it would not be a Micro LED display.

Prosser has not revealed a specific timeline for the iPhone flip or foldable iPhone, but his sources say that based on current product progress, the release date should be in late 2022 or early 2023.

Another Digitimes report recently stated that the iPhone Flip will likely "step into the foldable smartphone arena in 2022."

Meanwhile, Samsung is said to be skipping the Galaxy Z Flip 2 and going straight to the Galaxy Z Flip 3. (This would technically be the third model, since there was an early Galaxy Z Flip and then the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.) This is based on a report from the Galaxy Club, which says that Samsung is aiming for "more friendly pricing."

We can expect a 5G model as well as a 4G LTE-only version. However, we do not expect the new Galaxy Z Flip 3 to be announced at the same time as the Galaxy S21, which is rumored to be unveiled at the January 14 event.

Korean website ETNews previously reported that Samsung is developing four foldable phones for 2021, all of which are expected to appear in the second half of this year. There are high-end and general models. This should give Samsung a significant head start in the battle against the foldable iPhone.
