When Nvidia announced its RTX 30 family of GPUs late last year, the best gaming PCs received a major boost.

But PC gamers on the go have yet to receive the best gaming laptop upgrades. For now, Nvidia's most powerful mobile GPU remains the 2080 Super. This chipset is no slouch either, enabling ray tracing and impressive VR performance on the go, but it clearly doesn't hold a candle to the next generation of Ampere GPUs.

Thankfully, a mobile version of the RTX 30 family is also likely to arrive soon, as Twitter user @momo_us found a now-deleted listing on the website of Dutch PC maker Skikk. Before it was removed, the page listed a number of gaming laptops competing with the Nvidia RTX 3060 with 6GB of GDDR6 memory, the RTX 3070 Max-Q with 8GB of GDDR6, and the RTX 3080 Max-Q with a whopping 16GB of GDDR6 RAM.

The "wrong" laptop was listed.

Make no mistake, just because they have the same name, don't expect the same level of performance as their desktop counterparts. Not only do these mobile chips apparently use GDDR6 memory rather than the GDDR6X found in their bulkier siblings, but the portable nature of notebooks means that the GPUs must be paired back for cooling and battery-related reasons. The fact that the mobile RTX 3080 appears to have an additional 6GB RAM over the desktop version may be to compensate for the performance loss in other areas.

Still, Nvidia has achieved some pretty impressive performance from the mobile RTX 20 chip, bringing the fun of ray tracing to small portable screens. [It won't be long until all of this is officially announced; CES 2021 opens on January 11, and Nvidia has already booked an event titled "GeForce RTX: Game On" for the 11th. This could simply be an official launch of the 3060 and 3080 Ti, but given that the company has previously used the CES show to announce new mobile GPUs, it would be surprising if there was no mention of the RTX 30 family coming to laptops as well.
