The latest beta software for the Apple Watch adds a new fitness feature that enhances walking workouts to the Apple Watch, according to the latest beta software for the Apple Watch
Twitter user Khaos Tian (via 9to5Mac) shared a screenshot of the iOS 144 beta configuration Although not yet available to regular Apple Watch users, the software has a "Add latest workout to Watch" toggle that appears to automatically start this new walking feature
9to5Mac correlates Tian's tweet with its own code research, suggesting that "Time to Walk" is part of a guided audio workout feature Apple is working on for a future Apple Watch update The site reported finding the tool in the beta source code, labeled "WORKOUT_GUIDED_WALK"
Screenshots from the beta show that the walking workout can only be installed when the Apple Watch is connected to a power source and the companion iPhone is nearby, and is removed when the session ends Since sound elements are storage-consuming, this strange download-and-remove dance could apply to audio guidance as well
If 9to5Mac's hypothesis is correct, guided audio workouts may be coming to the Apple Watch with the next watchOS and iOS updates Like the existing "Time to Stand" nudge, "Time to Walk" could be designed to encourage users to walk on a daily basis
Guided audio workouts could also work with Apple Fitness Plus, Apple's own workout class service launched in December Fitness Plus offers 10 different workouts, all of which are available on Apple TV, the iPhone, iPad, or other screen to follow the coaches' instructions, so it is not geared toward the outdoors Walking workouts could see such a change
