Robotic vacuum cleaners are a great benefit for people who struggle to find the time to keep their homes clean However, robotic vacuum cleaners are not perfect They can inadvertently make things worse, especially when they encounter stubborn debris
Enter Samsung's new AI-powered JetBot 90 AI+ RoboVac This robovac has all the smarts and sensors needed to specifically avoid stubborn areas that can't be cleaned
It's been a few years since Samsung released its last robot vacuum cleaner, so the pressure is on to deliver something solid and make up for lost time other companies on the list of best robot vacuums like iRobot and Shark have certainly made it not holding back, so Samsung aims to bring its A-game
According to Samsung, the JetBot's main advantage is its mix of AI smarts and object recognition to make rooms cleaner; it uses LiDAR to measure distance and track its location more accurately, as well as 3D sensors with object recognition to recognize what is on the floor and recognize how best to clean around it This is similar to the technology found in self-driving cars, only on a much smaller scale
Perhaps most importantly, these sensors can also detect when they come across dirt that cannot be cleaned and mark it as "potentially causing cross-contamination"
The vacuum cleaner would then avoid this particular debris and send a notification to the user, allowing the user to clean it up themselves This is because nothing makes things worse than a robotic vacuum cleaner trying to clean up mud (or pet dander) and spreading it all over the room
Also, like most robotic vacuums, it can map the most efficient path, avoid objects in its path, return to the charging station to recharge, and empty into another bag Samsung claims that the bag only needs to be replaced every two to three months, which seems a bit miraculous, but let's see if it stands up to the test
The JetBot is connected to Samsung's SmartThings app, which allows you to control the JetBot's operation wherever you are You can schedule cleaning, set up a no-go zone on a map of your home, or use the built-in camera to keep an eye on things while you're away
Pricing for the JetBot 90AI+ has not yet been determined, but Samsung says it will be available in the first half of 2021 In other words, you won't have to wait very long to find out But if you can't wait that long, there are plenty of other robot vacuums with similar features Check out our list of the best robot vacuums and see if there's one you want to get right now
