CES has always been the home of the more outlandish technologies, and the 2021 CES is no different, as it is all digital, and the trend has not stopped at all.

Ampere Shower Power is a perfect example. Fixed directly above the shower head, it recharges the battery with the flow of water.

A fully charged battery seems to provide 14 hours of playback, so unless you use the Shower Power as a regular bathroom speaker and only take baths, you should never run out of battery power.

And while installing a hydroelectric device may sound like a lot of plumbing work, Ampere claims that most people can install it themselves in less than a minute. The device is designed to be mounted over most types of fixed and removable showerheads, and the vigorous flow of water spins an impeller connected to a small generator.

Shower Power's Kickstarter page describes the speaker's "bold 360-degree immersive sound." In terms of performance, it may be like the Kohler Moxie, which was unveiled at CES 2020 and currently sells for $120. However, this speaker must be charged via USB.

There is also a circular control on top of the speaker, but if you want to play tunes while relaxing on the toilet seat, a waterproof remote control is included.

"We've been developing this idea for over two years, and the timing couldn't be better to launch it," says Ampere CEO Reed Covington. After a year of quarantine, we're consuming more content on our speakers than ever before--podcasts, audiobooks, music, etc.

"We've been working on this idea for over two years, and we couldn't be more excited to launch it. On top of that, we're spending more time at home because of the pandemic. I think it's perfect for audiophiles and avid podcast listeners."

At this time, the only way to pre-order the Shower Power ahead of its May release is through Kickstarter or Indiegogo, where the basic model is $79 and the LED-equipped Shower Power Shine is $128. Participating in crowdfunding is risky, but Ampere is a proven company and the Shower Power is already fully funded.
