The new Pokémon Snap for Nintendo Switch has finally ushered in a release date — see it in action

The long-awaited sequel to "Pokémon Snap" will be released on the Nintendo Switch on April 30 for $59.99.

The Pokémon Company tweeted the release date and price of what is simply called "New Pokémon Snap," along with a new trailer showing a facelift from the original game that debuted on the Nintendo 64 20 years ago.

"New Pokémon Snap" takes place, this time in the Rental Region. It's a geographically diverse region, with jungles, deserts, and archipelagos untouched by modern civilization.

Players will take on the role of Pokémon photographers on a mission to investigate Pokémon that thrive in nature, rather than battling in stadiums for human entertainment.

Like the original (and unlike real wildlife photographers), players can coax wild Pokémon with fluffy berries to capture the perfect shot. The quality of the photo determines the high score. Players can take multiple pictures of a single subject and select the best one to evaluate.

In addition, some Pokémon may glow. This is due to plants in the Rental region. Finding a glowing Pokémon increases its rarity and earns more points.

Pokemon Snap became a fan favorite in 1999, but the game has changed dramatically since then. Catching Pokémon while slowly making your way around a guided island may not have the same appeal 22 years later. But the final consensus among critics and fans will be reached this April.
