The PS5 remains in ridiculously high demand, but it's not just other gamers who have to compete for the new console; duffers continue to be a thorn in the side of shoppers looking for where to buy a PS5.

On January 19, new stock arrived at UK retailer Game, but sold out in less than 10 minutes. Of course, this rapid stocking of PS5s was due in part to the large demand for PS5s, but this rapid stocking was also due to the BOT. Because these automated systems are much faster than humans, they can buy up large numbers of consoles before the average customer clicks buy.

One particular bot targeting UK/EU stores, dubbed Carnage Bot, claims great success on Twitter, where the software appears to have successfully purchased over 2,000 consoles from Game's latest restock.

However, Carnage's account is currently locked and its tweets are set to protected mode. This appears to be due to a less=favorable response from Twitter users who were eager to get their hands on Sony's new game console, some of whom no doubt expressed this dissatisfaction directly to Carnage.

After Video Games Chronicle contacted Game, a spokesperson for the company claimed that the retailer continues to ensure that only one PS5 is sold per customer.

"All pre-orders are subject to automatic checks, and any order updates, including cancellations after these checks, are made after the customer receives a valid order confirmation email," the spokesperson said.

"At this time, these orders are still pre-orders and payment has not yet been made by the customer. Payment will only begin once we receive confirmation of the order."

With any luck, these checks will thwart the efforts of the duffers and more consoles will be in the hands of people who just want to play the games instead of ripping off others.
