Audio specialist KEF has introduced the KC62 compact subwoofer
The KC62 is a wired subwoofer with a massive 1,000 watts of output power, delivered through two 65-inch drivers in a symmetrical "force canceling" arrangement Depending on how these drivers are combined, the KC62 may have a smaller footprint than other high-power subwoofers, making it a space-saving addition to even the best soundbars
If you are unfamiliar, force canceling subwoofers work by having two drivers pointing in opposite directions The forces exerted by the speakers cancel each other out, thus preventing the rattling sound the subwoofer makes when the enclosure is rocked by the drivers
Uni-Core technology improves, or at least reduces, the traditional force canceling design by combining the two drivers into a single motor system with overlapping voice coils (the wires that vibrate the speaker cone and produce sound) It appears to be
The result is the KC62, KEF's first Uni-Core speaker product and probably not the last Measuring 97 x 101 x 98 inches, it is certainly smaller than most hi-fi subwoofers, especially those with dual force-canceling drivers
It also features KEF's patent-pending P-Flex driver surround, which allows the driver to move further from its resting position as it vibrates This is said to result in less distortion and deeper sub-bass tones
Given all these new technologies, it is not surprising that the compact KC62 is expensive
