Anyone wondering where to buy an Nvidia RTX 3080 or other Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card has probably already lost out to the duffers.

An analysis of the GPU reseller market now reveals the scale of the problem, with nearly 50,000 Nvidia Ampere cards for sale on just two sites.

Oracle data analyst Michael Driscoll created a script to pull data from the two largest reseller hangouts, eBay and StockX. The analyst found that the duffers made a combined profit of about $15 million.

Meanwhile, the general public is facing persistent shortages of the entire Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series and other duffer favorites like the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Driscoll's analysis revealed not only the enormous amount of GPUs being resold, but also the huge margins being charged by the duffers. the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3060 Ti appear to be the worst, with eBay reporting that both GPUs sold for a median price of more than twice their respective MSRPs.

Most of the inventory went to eBay, with 39,064 units resold compared to 10,616 on StockX; the GeForce RTX 3080 was the most frequently resold model on eBay, with 14,066 units resold, while the GeForce RTX 3070 narrowly outperforms the RTX 3080, with 3,697 compared to 3,473 on StockX.

Recent new tariffs on PC components imported from China have further increased prices as well, Driscoll said, raising suggested retail prices by 7% to 25%. Not surprisingly, resellers raised their prices as well.

This is yet another reminder of how inefficient retailers have been in getting inventory into the hands of regular customers instead of reseller bots.

This is also a sign of just how huge the reseller market really is. Many GeForce RTX 30 series restockings we have witnessed include only double-digit units. Imagine how many of these restocks were instantly wiped out by duffers to constitute nearly 50,000 sales. And that's not counting new listings on eBay and StockX that have not yet sold.
